This program is part of Willis College’s Continuing Education course offerings and is designed to further educate those already in the dental profession. The fine print of the course is The program is non-vocational and not registered under the Ontario Private Career Colleges Act, 2005. 

Willis College is proud to offer Dental Radiography.

(HARP APPROVED CERTIFICATION)

This certificate course will allow a qualified health care professional to expose, process and mount dental radiographic images following HARP guidelines under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. Within 75 hours of a combination of a self-directed, college-paced, theory course (40 hours) and Instructor-led practical course (35 hours) you will earn your Dental Radiography HARP Approved Certification.

The 35 hours of practical application will be conducted at our Willis College Dental Lab in Ottawa.

Theory content will be accomplished online. Students will be expected to attend the Ottawa campus Dental Lab for practical training and assessment, this takes place over a series of five classes.

All financial responsibility for transportation, food and accommodation incurred by attending the Ottawa campus, lies with the student.

Students must successfully complete all three Dental Radiography courses in order to receive their certificates.

Successful completion of all three courses will permit the dental assistant to fully participate in prescribed radiographic procedures within their dental office.

*Note – All 3 components must be completed successfully in order to receive the certificate of completion.

 

 

Admission Requirements

  • High School diploma or Wonderlic entrance assessment tool, AND;
  • Dental Assisting level II, RPN, RN, or RDH, or DDS diploma/degree OR a minimum of 3 years professional experience in a dental office*

  • Dental Radiography Theory

    This theory-based, self-directed course prepares the dental assistant to expose and process intra-oral and extra-oral dental radiographic images according to HARP standards. The dental assistant will be introduced to basic physics and principles of radiography, safety precautions, quality assurance protocols and the operation of the dental x-ray unit. Instruction will be provided on recognizing dental errors and solving problem situations, along with patient education and management. This course will provide the dental assistant with the theoretical knowledge to apply during the clinical practical courses, DRP1 and DRP2.
  • Dental Radiography Practical 1 and 2

    These hands-on courses prepare the students to expose, process and mount intra-oral and extra-oral dental radiographic images according to HARP standards. A review of the basic physics and principles of radiography, safety precautions and the operation of the dental x-ray unit will be provided. Within the dental lab setting, the dental assistant will expose digital radiographic images using Paralleling and Bisecting techniques on radiography manikins under the direct supervision of the HARP Approved Clinical Instructor. Instruction will be provided on recognizing dental errors and solving problem situations, patient education and management. Quality assurance procedures are emphasized as well as observation of all safety protocols.
