Why Accreditation Isn’t Optional for Your Massage Therapy Career

If you’re considering a career as a massage therapist in Ontario, there’s one important detail you may not have heard yet—but it could make or break your future in the field.

As of January 1, 2027, students must graduate from an accredited Massage Therapy program to be eligible for licensing through the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). This requirement is a big shift—and if the school you choose isn’t already accredited, you may be investing in a program that won’t qualify you for certification.

What Does Accreditation Really Mean?

Accreditation is a formal recognition granted to programs that meet or exceed professional education standards. In Massage Therapy, that recognition comes from the Canadian Massage Therapy Council for Accreditation (CMTCA).

When a program is accredited:

  • It covers the required curriculum for practice in Ontario
  • You’re eligible to sit for the CMTO certification exam
  • Employers know you’ve been trained to industry standards
  • You may qualify for financial aid and professional membership opportunities

It’s not just a stamp of approval—it’s your gateway to becoming a licensed professional.

Why It Matters Now

With the 2027 deadline approaching, many colleges are only beginning the process of applying for accreditation. At Willis College, we’ve already completed it.

In fact, our Massage Therapy program has received full 5-year accreditation from the CMTCA—the maximum possible term. That means our students can move forward with full confidence, knowing their education meets all the criteria for success.

Better yet, 100% of our graduates have passed the CMTO exam, and their average scores are 10% higher than the provincial average. Accreditation isn’t just about meeting the standard—it’s about exceeding it.

Fast, Hands-On, and Career-Focused

At Willis College, we’ve designed our Massage Therapy program to get you working fast—without compromising quality. With hands-on lab time, real clinic experience, and small class sizes, students graduate confident and career-ready.

Whether you’re looking for a career change or just starting to explore your options in healthcare, this program is built to support your goals.
