We’re Supporting Women In Technology
The technology sector has long been a male dominated industry, and has been the lesser for it. Diversity is critical in tech, as it enables companies to create better and safer products that take everyone into consideration, not just one section of society. In fact, a 2020 report from McKinsey found that diverse companies perform better, hire better talent, have more engaged employees, and retain workers better than companies that do not focus on diversity and inclusion. Despite this, women remain widely underrepresented in IT roles.
Women make up 47% of all employed adults., but as of 2015, they hold only 25% of computing roles, according to data from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT). And, this is despite the fact that the growth of jobs has outpaced the growth of overall employment in the country, growing 79% since 1990 while overall employment has grown 34%, according to data from Pew Research Center. Despite national conversations about the lack of diversity in tech, women are disproportionately missing out on this boom.
Willis College is working hard to make sure that the tech field is well stocked with qualified candidates, and that as many as possible are women. To do this we have created the WIllis College Women in Technology Scholarship (WWITS).
This scholarship was created to empower women and to help recruit new talent into the rapidly growing sector of CyberSecurity. The scholarship will be open to qualified female students from across Canada who require financial assistance to enrol in one of Willis College’s technology programs. This includes Help Desk and Network Technology, CyberSecurity Operator, and CyberSecurity Analyst diploma programs.
Each scholarship will cover all costs, including tuition, books, materials, and industry certifications related to the successful applicant’s program of choice.
The deadline to submit applications each year will be July 15th.
