What is Business Administration?
It’s exactly what it sounds like; someone who assists and oversees a business. This program is perfect for someone who wants a better understanding of how a business works and operates, and the different sectors within a business (like human resources, bookkeeping, accounting, and administration).
This program will open a ton of doors for you! Potential future jobs include executive assistant, human resources and recruitment officer, administrative officer, bookkeeper, purchasing agents and officer, office and administrative support worker, accounting clerk, administrative clerk, and financial clerk.
A day in your new life
It’s tough to really outline what a day in your new business administration related career will look like because you’ll have so many varying opportunities for employment! But, this position will probably lead to life in an office environment. Picture yourself in a smart work wardrobe grabbing a coffee and heading into the office. Small and large businesses alike will find your skills useful so whether you prefer to work with a small company or a large multinational entity is completely up to you!
Once you get into the office you’ll put your problem-solving hat on. No matter what career path you choose your critical thinking and logical reasoning skills will come in handy. Working in an office environment also means working with all types of coworkers so a positive and outgoing attitude will suit you well.
You may spend your days working in human resources interviewing potential job applicants, processing payroll for your coworkers, or crunching numbers to determine liquidity and cash flow for the business. Whatever you choose there will be tons of room to learn and advance in your new environment with challenges around every corner. You’ll excel with a strong work ethic and of course your powerful education behind you. The sky really is the limit!
The program
This is our flagship business program at Willis College and we’ve worked hard to develop a dynamic and interesting curriculum that will keep you engaged and learning. One of our favourite sections of the course is our ‘Lion’s Den’ project. Similar to ‘Dragon’s Den’ you’ll team up with your fellow students to wow us with your knowledge!
Over the course of seven weeks, you’ll hone your skills in business, project management, and marketing while collaborating in groups to develop workable ideas for a business. At the end of the process, each team presents their business proposal to the panel of business leaders brought in to serve as judges – or “Lions” – in our Lion’s Den.
Be prepared to answer questions and make the best case possible for why your business is viable and likely to find success in the marketplace. It’s an intense exercise that will require you to draw from everything you’ve learned in your courses to find success. But, the results are a practical deep dive into entrepreneurship that is the perfect preparation for a real-world situation.
Sound cool? It is! Learn more about Lion’s Den here. You can also watch a Den presentation and hear what our students think of the project if you’re interested (spoiler alert; they love it!).
